Only The Very Best For Your Children

Maternity Nanny

Having a newborn at home can be difficult, particularly if it’s your first child and you’re unsure what to expect once you’re home from the hospital. Hiring a maternity nanny can make a
huge difference, easing the transition and giving you the support you need until you’re
confident that you can go it alone.

What is a maternity nanny?

A maternity nanny (also known as a maternity nurse, although there are differences between the two) is someone who can provide you with as much or as little post-birth support as you need, providing services for up to 24 hours a day as required.
They can provide full-time and part-time hours, so you can easily scale the service to suit your requirements as they change and evolve over time. You can also hire them for only days or nights, depending on what you need.
A full-time maternity nanny will typically live with you in your home so they’re available to provide around-the-clock care. In order for this to be facilitated, you will need to have a spare bedroom as minimum and, ideally, a separate bathroom for them to use, as well.
Maternity nurses provide families with experienced and fully qualified care for newborns and here at Nannies On Board we work closely with each of our clients to ensure that the right nanny is selected for them, based on their individual requirements.

What does a maternity nanny do?

Maternity nannies and nurses provide essential postnatal support to new mothers and their babies, ensuring that the transition from hospital to home life goes as smoothly as possible and that you receive the necessary support as time goes on.
Typically, maternity nurse duties include helping with establishing a solid sleep routine, feeding (including both breastfeeding and use of formula/bottles), providing guidance in relation to any health issues that may arise in either you or your baby and helping with food preparation for the rest of the family.
Night feeding, bottle/breastfeeding, getting into a routine, bottle sterilisation and preparation, bathing and dressing, laundry, support and guidance are all usually included as part of a maternity nurse contract.
Note that there may be a difference between maternity nurses and nannies. Nurses may have more experience and come from a medical background, while nannies usually have between three and five years’ experience of working with newborns, as well as additional maternity nanny training.

What are the benefits of hiring a maternity nanny?

As wonderful and exciting as it is to bring a newborn baby home for the first time, it can also be difficult and challenging, particularly for first-time parents. As such, it can be very beneficial to hire a maternity nanny to provide much-needed support at the very beginning.
Benefits of hiring this kind of childcare professional include being able to take advantage of extensive experience in newborn care, personalised support that ties in with your specific values, lifestyle and preferences, guidance on breastfeeding, help with postpartum recovery, and the chance to build your confidence as a new parent.
